Clincal Study for Drotaverine HCI (No-Spa^(®)) on Functional Disorders and Pain Caused by Spasm of the Smooth Muscles

Abstract
|
|
|
This report is designed to evaluate the efficacies of the clinical basis and any untoward side effects of Drotaverine hydrochloride (No-Spa®) as a spasmolytic agent on smooth muscles.
47 patients were undertaken in this study. Their clinical symptoms were gastritis(13 cases), gastro-duodenal ulcer (17 cases), cholelithiasis(7 cases), colitis (10 cases).
This study was done at the out-patient clinic of college of Internal Medicine Hanyang University.
32, patients (treatment group) were treated with Drotaverine hydrochloride,
15 patients (control group) were treated with lactose tablet.
The effectiveness was assessed by the subjective decision in 4 different arbitrary level;
EXCELLENT, GOOD, FAIR, NOT EFFECT.
1) The general effect of the drug for gastritis was excellent in 3 cases (37.50%), good in 5 cases (62.50%). The whole patients treated with Drotaverin Hydrochloride showed good response.
2) The general-effect of the drug for gastro-duodenal ulcer was excellent in 4 cases (36. 36%), good in 6 cases (54.54%). 10 cases (90.90%) treated with Drotaverine hydrochloride showed good responses.
3) The general effect of the drug for cholelithiasis was excellent in 1 cases (20%), good in 3 cases (60%). 4 cases (80%) treated with Drotaverine hydrochloride showed good responses.
4) The general effect of the drug for colitis was excellent in 3cases(37. 5%), good in 4 cases (50.0%). 7 cases (87. 5%) treated with Drotaverine hydrochloride showed good responses.
5) Total 29 cases (90.63%) in the treatment group showed good responses.
6) Although dry mouth and nausia were experienced in 2 case of gastritis patients, this symptom was rapidly relieved. It is not, clear that this is caused by Drotaverine hydrochloride. No other significant untoward side-effect of the drug was experienced in this trial.
According to the result of this trial, Drotaverine hydrochloride (NO-SPA®) is very effective and safe in treatment of functional disorders and pain caused by spasm of the gastro-intestinal smooth muscle.
